Christmas Mini Finds

I found these perfectly sized 1:12 ornaments at a local Hallmark store.

I got this cute Christmas topiary and gingerbread house

at the Small World Daytimer's Club Christmas party gift exchange.

I found this at Walmart at Christmas time. They are stackable colored markers. They are cute little snowmen.

I found these little tic tac toe games at Walmart near the party supply section. They came with Sweet Tart candy. They would be perfect for the mini doll children to use as tic tac toe games, however, I am going to replace the candy with something else.

This is a mini trash can keychain made by my local trash removal company, "Waste Management". It is too small for 1:12 but would work for half scale.

Garfield The Cat Book Scene

The latest club project the members of The Small World Daytimers Club were given was to create a scene of a favorite book using one of those paper mache books. After starting to create a bakery I was not happy with, I decided to create one using some of my Garfield and Odie cake toppers. I entered it at this past summer's Three Blind Mice Show and Sale in Dayton, Ohio and won Honorable Mention.

Can you Identify this Dollhouse??

I bought this dollhouse recently at a garage sale for $10.00!! I took it apart and removed all of the old wallpaper. Then, I replaced the old screws and put it back together. I am repainting and putting in new wallpaper. The woman said that the dollhouse if from the 1940's, however, I have not found it anywhere mentioned on the internet nor in any of my big vintage dollhouse books. If anyone can tell me the maker of this dollhouse and if it is valuable, please let me know. Also, there are two round holes in the back of the dollhouse through the floor and ceiling. Not sure why.

Inside / Outside Project

The club project for the Small World Daytimers Club for December was an indoor/outdoor scene. Everyone came up with a different idea. One lady's theme was gardening, another lady's theme was a bunny birthday party just to name a few. Mine was a mix of romantic indoor and outdoor patio. My new favorite color is pink so I chose pink as the indoor romantic room scene, using things I already had. For the outdoor patio, I hand laid each brick using glue and mortar. Although I did not win the contest for first, second and third prize, I still like my scene and plan to exhibit it this coming summer here in Dayton (Ohio) at the Three Blind Mice Dollhouse and Miniature Show in August.

Dura Craft Farmhouse Finally Sold!

The Dura Craft Farmhouse was my first kit I built in the early 2000's when I got back into miniatures. My husband helped me build it. I was running out of room, so I decieded

a couple of years ago that I would sell this huge 8+ room house decorated in 1880's Victorian decor. After unsuccessfully trying to sell it through Ebay and Craig's List, I took it to a local consignment shop called "The Birdcage" and after 6 months there it just sold! I only made $175.00 after asking much more on Ebay and Craig's List, but I realized if I really wanted to sell it, I would have to come down on the price, so I did. I am just glad that will give enjoyment to someone else.

Help Requested with Van Buren Dollhouse Kit

Hello everyone. Sorry I have not blogged on here lately. I have been busy with going through my attic and getting rid of things we no longer use or need as well as through the rest of the house. I tend to be a bit of a hoarder, so it is hard to get rid of things. I got rid of many things from the attic but I still am keeping way too much! If anyone saw my attic they would not believe I got rid of anything. I recently bought a Van Buren dollhouse kit at a garage sale. Of course, the young guy assured me that all of the parts were there but once I got home I found that not to be the case. I am missing the walls, the floors and the room dividers. "What is left"" asked a fellow member of the Small World Daytimers Club. "Well, windows, doors, trim, that sort of thing", I replied. I am a member of the Greenleaf site, but have not found any help there. So, if any of you currently own a Van Buren dollhouse, please contact me. All I need is the measurements of the missing parts so that I can make my own. Thank you!

My First Trip to an A.C. Moore

We don't have A.C. Moore stores in Ohio, so it was a real treat to get to go to one in South Carolina. I even got to go twice! Here are some of my mini bargains.

This is a bag of miniature bears. Their legs and arms seem to be able to move. In this picture, are a dollhouse toilet, the bears show above, a bag of tiny shells, a wooden barrel, two dressers or desks, a wooden sandal picture frame and corner picture thingies I plan to use to make miniature desk calendars with.

I bought this box of tiny colored shells for $4.00 at a gift shop on a pier.

This is a heavy gold pineapple I found at a Goodwill store. It is about 2 inches tall.

I got this from a gift shop. This is a mermaid laying on a folding chair. I plan to remove her from the chair, and recover the chair. I will use the mermaid in another scene.

The Living Room This room is basically done except for decorating and adding curtains. The Living Room

The Dinning Room Though the hutch does not match the table and chairs, I still like it. I need to polish the hutch and fill it as well as decorate the table.

The Kitchen I love this kitchen! I still need to add some curtains and maybe more upper cabinets.

I am probably going to add a small table and chairs in the bay window section for the four children who will live here. This will be the families informal table.

This was going to be an office/den, but I think I am going to use it as a guest room, as this big family of six will almost always have family visiting them, probably from my other three modern day dollhouses.

Another view of the guest room. I need to change the bedding to match the room colors and add some items like a lamp and curtains. I also need to add baseboards and a railing for the steps as well as a door.

This is the master bedroom, the parent's bedroom. I got the baseboards all in place, and they are ready to move into this bedroom. Oh, and we will need to add some curtains of course as well as a door.

The Bathroom This room is done except for decorating and furnishing it as well as adding a shower curtain.

The Girls Bedroom I need to add baseboards, finish hanging curtains, add steps and fill in some cracks and spaces where the walls come together. I am going to add a bunk bed for the girls.

The Boys Room Poor boys! They have to share a smaller room, but those things happen in real life, too. This room still needs baseboards, a second door in which to enter and I need to figure out how to fill in the openings in the wall in order to give it a more realistic appearance. I am probably going to use foamboard, but figuring out how to measure and fit it is the challenge!

Second Floor Family Room This area will be used as the entertaining room for the kids and their multitude of mini friends. The family room is mostly done. The room you see straight ahead is the second floor bathroom the kids will all share. It is not complete yet and still a contractor's mess, lol.

These are erasers. I either bought them at Walmart or Meijer. Some of them are too big to use in a miniature scene, but some are usable. You could also rework them to make them more 1:12 scale.

Spring Wreath I made this in my local miniature club. This is a wreath (I don't remember what kind of wreath it is) with scrapbook confetti stuff glued on. I also don't remember what this stuff is called.

Fall Decoration Also made this in my local miniature club.

Antique Crackle Chair I also made this in my local miniature club. We assembled the plastic chair, painted it black then it was sprayed with crackle spray paint. A hole was cut into the seat and the plant was placed through the hole.

Recycle Bins

I came up with this idea a few years ago, and just made them for a contemporary swap. The bins are made from ice cube trays. I got the recycle labels from the internet and printed them on clear labels.

I just love this living room! I used brown felt for carpet. In the dinning room, I used mini hardwood flooring. I made a seat cushion for the window seat from foam and covered it with white fabric. I also glued on long gold beads under the window seat to give the impression that the bottom drawer pulls out for storage.

I found these at my local Kroger grocery store. They were half off. They are little pillow like stuffed cloth hearts with a removable sticker on the back. I bought them to use in my dollhouses. They make perfect mini bed pillows.

They sell several different sets, but most of them are too big to use in a 1:12 scale setting, however, the set shown above would work in 1:12 scale. The food might be a bit too big, but can be manipulated or cut down.

This Disney's High School Musical locker would look great in a mini scene as it about the right size. I am going to use mine in one of my dollhouses for the teenage son or daughter.

This outdoor grill is so cute! Except for the words "HO HO HO" on the burgers, this grill would great in a mini scene. You could cover the burgers with fimo slices of cheese.

This 1980's video arcade game would look great in a retro 80's roombox, bar, or a modern day dollhouse.

Sorry I have not been on my blog lately. I had a health problem going on and my USB port is litterly broken somehow on my laptop. I could not use the other computer because it had some computer virus on it and I had to wait until my husband could "fix" it. Now, I think it has ANOTHER virus on it! So much for virus protection! I just finished putting the finishing touches on my doctor's office (picture was posted about a month ago on this blog) for the judging that will be coming up in the Small World Daytimers Club. In case you are new to this blog or don't remember, each member in my dollhouse miniature club was given a roombox made of white foamcore to create whatever miniature scene they wanted and they will be judged at the December meeting this coming week. I will be posting updated pictures soon! The Small World Daytimers Club is also having a Christmas gift exchange in which we buy or make a gift with a $10.00 value. I made a Corn Hole game! The bean bags have tiny beads in them. Corn Hole is a big deal here in the Midwest. It is a bean bag toss game in which you toss your bean bag through the hole on a piece of wood. I will add a picture of the Corn Hole game too. I hope you are finding the time during this Christmas season to work on your miniatures. Many of us decorate our dollhouses for Christmas. I have many mini decorations for my dollhouses! Even lights! I usually don't do a lot of outside decorating on my dollhouses because my two youngest cats LOVE to play with my miniatures!

Thanks to Ebay, I sold my Alison Jr. dollhouse made by Real Good Toys to a woman from Pennslyvannia. When she came to pick up the dollhouse recently, she also bought my log cabin dollhouse! Since she came so far, I sold it to her for $35. I was just happy to have sold these two dollhouses, as I am overrun with dollhouses!

Interesting Mini Find at local card store!

I found this cute keyboard and stand while at a local card and gift shop. When I bought it, it had a cord attached on both sides of the keyboard attached with a screw on each side. I think it was being sold as a Christmas tree ornament. They had a few other musical instruments but this was the only one that was 1:12 scale size. I simply took off the string and screws and tried it out with one of my male dolls. Seems to look great! I think I will put in one of my dollhouses!

Greenleaf's Garfield Dollhouse bought for $15!

I just wanted to share that I bought the American Greenleaf Garfield dollhouse (10 rooms) from Craig's list for an incredible $15!! Actually, it was $17 since the lady didn't have enough change for my $20 bill, but that was fine with me. It is partially built, but still has tons of pieces to glue on. It will be a fun project this winter. I just don't know where I am going to put it! Has anyone built one? Any advice? Since I love the modern look, that will be how it will be decorated. Maybe an old house updated? Maybe a new house made to look that way? I will eventually post pictures here very soon of how it the completed part looks, and will continue to post pictures as I proceed with finishing it. Had to drive about 30-40 miles north or so to get it but it was well worth it!

New Project: Doctor's Examination Room

A couple of the ladies in my Small World Daytimers Club made roomboxes from foamcore sheets. We have been given the challenge of creating any kind of room we want and we will have a contest in a few months for the best roombox. I had wanted to do a doctor's exam room and had been saving up items for several months and figured "why not?" I am NOT done with this scene yet, but I will post more pictures when it is completed. I made the scale from a razor as well as the trash can from a toothbrush cover and the sharp container. On the top of the cabinets is a model of a brain. It is actually an eraser I got from a health fair that I painted and glued to a "base" which was a cap from something. Still to make: examination table and x-ray illuminator and a magazine rack. I also need to put the skeleton in the room.

Route 66 Salt and Pepper Shaker set. I bought this for $5.00 from a garage sale. It is about 1 inch scale size.

This is an unopened Mickey Mouse counted cross stitch with oval frame. The frame is about 2.5 tall and about 2 inches wide. If I can ever figure out how to stitch it, I will hang it in my future toy shop.

I bought this doll at a church rummage sale for 10 cents! She was naked and her hair was a mess. I cut her hair, washed her and put clothes and shoes on her. For some reason, she seems to have one leg slightly longer than the other one. She is about 6 inches tall.

These resin dress forms are about 6.5 to 7 inches tall.

Not sure where I will use this wooden old woman. She stands about 6 inches tall.

This is one of those pencil sharpeners that I painted black and sprayed with a clear matte.

My Boutique Roombox Won First Place in the Roombox Category!

I created this outdoor cookout scene using a ten gallon aquarium I got for free! It was brand new, someone had in their garage left from the previous owner. In the scene is a sand box, wagon, ring toss game, dog, cat, barrel with cold coke, six pack of beer, 12 pack of Coke, Lemon pie, cookies, etc.

These napkin rings were $1.00. I was thinking about making them into planters.

Here is Halloween ribbon that I can make into bags, gold presents and decorative snow. All of this was dirt cheap!

All this 6 inch doll needs is a cleaning, hair cut and some clothes. I am going to spray paint the table and use in my Michael's half inch scale house. The table and shirt were 10 cents each! The doll was 50 cents.

I found this in the toy section of a local church rummage sale. I think I will redo it with some paint and make other changes. This was $1.50.

For those of you who are members of NAME, look in the latest Miniature Gazette that just came out. Two of my miniature projects that I submitted got printed. I still have not received my copy of the Miniature Gazette, so I don't know what pages my projects are on. One of my projects is a bowling trophy and the other one is an Oreo type cookie. They are very easy to make!

The above picture is a dollhouse that is housed in an outdoor display case against the side of The Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel, IN which is just north of Indianapolis. If you have never been to this museum, I highly recommend you take a trip there and see it for yourself. They told me that they change around the displays a couple times a year or so. Again, I took more pictures than I could post here on the blog. Some did not turn out well due to lighting issues. You will just have to trust me that it was worth the visit!

I spent the weekend in Indianapolis to attend NAME's 2009 National Convention. There were about 70 dealers (more or less), with many vendors only selling 1/2 or 1/4 scale miniatures. I am told "by those in the know" that 1/2 and smaller scales are becoming more popular, especially for those of us who are litterly running out space for our miniatures. I will stick with 1 inch scale, myself, as it is my preferred scale size. I didn't spend as much as I normally would at a regular show, but I did get the chance to see some dealers I had never seen before, thus seeing miniatures I had never seen before. Several members of my club, Small World Daytimers Club, also attended the convention as well. I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I will be posting pictures very soon! Keep checking back!

I bought this cute Fisher Price car at a garage sale for 25 cents!!! I took off the stickers, removed the goo and cleaned it up. I wanted to take it apart and repaint it green, but it is glued together so well that I can't get it apart. I will probably have to just do a really good job of taping off the areas I don't spray painted in order to paint it. I thought about using some kind of primer on it and trying to paint it with regular craft paints. Any suggestions???

Thanks to a blog follower of mine, I now remember where I bought these key covers above. I bought them at Books and Company (book store). They also own Books A Million. They were on the clearance table. They are soft plastic. I thought they would make great miniature shirts on a hanger.

I recently went to a strawberry festival in Ohio, and they were throwing away thousands of these. I asked if I could have some, and they let me have all I wanted, of course, I could not carry home ALL of them, but my mother and I stacked them and carried home a bunch of them. My husband must have thought I was crazy! Other than fences and windows, any new suggestions??? We are going to use some at our show this summer.

This is one of the latest projects we made in the club. It is a tiny baby stroller made from a dowel rod.

Sally, our club president and owner of Small World, gave us all a naked ceramic child doll to dress and wig as we choose. I am not good at wigging dolls, so I gave the doll simple pony tails.

I bought this structure at a garage sale for $2.00! The couple's son had made in school and got an A+ for it. I had first asked her if it was a dollhouse or a birdhouse, and she said it could be whatever I wanted it to be. Now, help me figure out what to do with it. It is a one room structure, and the doorway is too wide for a typical dollhouse door. It is well made. Thank you for your comments and suggestions for my last challenge, the container that my mother's watch had come in. I am still weighing all the options, but it will probably be shed or some kind of storage container, maybe a storm shelter.

In the picture above are cute little mini pottery I bought in a bag for .99 cents at a local thrift store. They are for decorating an aquarium. I figured that I could paint them and make them southwest...or other themed.

Also bought cheap at a garage sale, this will look cute with the lid removed and filled with dried flowers.

Skull material, bought for fifty cents at a garage sale. I think I will use in my haunted dollhouse.

Look what ten cents bought me at a garage sale! It is perfect size for my dollhouse little boy...or perhaps one of the grandfathers.

I bought this cute little bunny and stroller at a garage sale REAL cheap. I think I am going to take the bunny out and use it in one of my dollhouses for the little girl. I will use the bunny elsewhere.

The above picture frame is a deep picture frame. It is BIG. I am going to put in some kind of miniature scene in it.

I bought this picture frame from a garage sale. It also has a deepness to it. I am thinking of taking out the glass and making some kind of mini scene and gluing the glass or plexiglass over the front.

I made the above purse for a purse swap. It was made mostly from ribbon.

I made the bear above for a toy swap. They are easy to make BUT they take patience.

Though it may be hard to see, the above are placemats I made from weaved ribbon I got on sale at Wal-Mart for $1.00!

I made the above for a garage theme swap. In case you cannot see the cans very well, I made two paint cans, one spray paint can and a gallon of KILZ.

The picture above is what I made for an online Women's swap. Includes a purfume bottle, nail poilish, brush with the brushes painted black and liquid makeup. I glued everything to a mirror and a white poker chip.

I simply glued some flowerly trim around a straw hat.

Crate with Record Albums

I made this for a filled box swap. I made miniature record album covers with a blank back and folded them over and glued them closed. Then I put them in a crate. So easy!
